"Still Standing", mixed media, 2013

Still Standing” is a sculptural group that send us back in time to WWII and represents the destruction that war brings upon us. The elements of the group act like a puzzle, the individual pieces can be moved, turned or placed one on another. It can be a hiding place, a tombstone, a derelict ruin, or a demolition site. The wreckage reminds us of the sacrifices of our Windsor veterans as they fought for a free world. War can start anytime and can spread everywhere, a wave of destruction repeated through history, with families and individuals torn apart, as the pieces in this puzzle, the survivors bearing scars both on their bodies and their souls.

“Our country's great efforts in the Second World War involved virtually the whole country whether by serving in the military or by serving on the home front in industry or agriculture. More than one million Canadians and Newfoundlanders served in the military — more than 45,000 gave their lives and another 55,000 were wounded” (http://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/remembrance/history/second-world-war)

By reminding us of the results of war, we can change the future.
